About Kathryn Martin
Kathryn Martin is a highly specialist Speech and Language Therapist who has been working in the NHS for over 20 years. She has always worked in the field of paediatrics with a particular focus on working with children with special educational needs from the age of 0-19 years.
Kathryn has extensive experience working with children with a range of disabilities and diagnosis. This includes Autistic Spectrum Condition, Down Syndrome, Rett Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy. Kathryn enjoys working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to meet the needs of any children she works with, often working alongside education staff, paediatricians, physiotherapists and occupational therapists.
Kathryn’s clinical areas of interest
Kathryn is a specialist in the field of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and enjoys working with children who may require the short- or long-term use of AAC (e.g. signs, symbols and communication aids) to support them in developing their communication to their full potential. As part of this, she recognises the importance of working with the key adults within a child’s life, to ensure the best progress can be made.

Initial consultation
Therapy approaches including Intensive Interaction, Attention Autism, Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and Makaton.
Kathryn is a Makaton Tutor, training adults to use signs and symbols within their everyday interactions with children.
Kathryn is a trained dysphagia therapist, working with children who have eating and drinking difficulties.
Attendance at EHCP reviews
Conduct Speech and Language Therapy assessments and observations to inform therapy targets and diagnosis.
