ADHD Assessment for Children & Adults

What is ADHD?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD, refers to a condition that affects a person’s behaviour and emotional regulation. Symptoms are usually present from early childhood and affect daily functioning. Both children and adults can have ADHD and there can be differences in how this presents in males and females.

Our Assessments are conducted by highly experienced professionals and are fully NICE-compliant, recognised by the NHS, local authorities, schools, and employers.

These allow you to explore whether one, both, or neither diagnosis apply, supported by detailed clinical tools, comprehensive reports, and a multidisciplinary approach.

We now offer the Qb Check. QbCheck is an ADHD test that is both CE marked and FDA/TGA cleared for use as an aid in the assessment and treatment evaluation of ADHD for people aged 6 to 60 years old.

The Qb Check provides objective, unbiased data to professionals, giving them a better view of ADHD. The objective data from QbCheck, alongside the clinical interview, will allow for clear, concise depictions of difficulty, away from the norm and improve understanding of treatment options.

The Qb Check assessment can be included as part of your assessment for an additional £300.

ADHD Indicators

ADHD Indicators in Children and Adults

ADHD symptoms can look different in childhood, adulthood, and across genders. Below is a clear overview of common indicators and how they may appear.

Why we’re not a Right to Choose provider

Our priority is delivering gold-standard, neuro-affirming Autism and ADHD assessments with the highest level of clinical quality. We know many families and adults consider the NHS Right to Choose pathway, so we want to clearly explain why we choose not to operate under this system and how this benefits the people we support.

Our decision is rooted in ensuring fast turnaround times, compliance, and neuroaffirmative high-quality care.

Faster Access to Assessment

While NHS Right to Choose can be helpful, waiting times are often long — commonly 6–18 months, depending on location and service capacity.

By remaining independent, Lycali offers:

  • Shorter waiting times (often weeks, not months)

  • Flexible appointment options

  • Direct self-referral, with no GP referral required

This means quicker answers and earlier access to meaningful support.

Face-to-Face Assessments

Reducing Diagnostic Risk

Many providers rely solely on remote assessments. At Lycali, we offer face-to-face appointments where clinically appropriate, recognising that some presentations are harder to identify online.

In-person assessments can be particularly important for:

  • Women and girls

  • Individuals who mask or camouflage

  • People with complex or overlapping profiles

Our assessment pathways are designed to reduce the risk of subtle presentations being missed, ensuring accuracy and depth rather than speed alone.

Gold-Standard, NICE-Compliant Assessments

All Lycali assessments follow NICE guidance and use validated tools such as:

  • ADOS-2

  • ADI-R

  • DIVA-5 / Young DIVA

  • ACE / ACE+

We allow the time needed for thorough, multidisciplinary assessment, so clients feel listened to — not rushed.

Reports That Are Widely Accepted

Because our assessments meet NHS-equivalent clinical standards, Lycali reports are recognised by:

  • NHS and GP services

  • Schools and SENCO teams

  • Local authorities (including EHCP processes)

  • Employers and workplace adjustments teams

Your assessment is designed to travel with you and support you across settings.

Experienced, Fully Registered Clinicians

All assessments at Lycali are delivered by fully qualified, registered clinicians, including:

  • HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologists

  • GMC-registered Paediatricians

  • HCPC-registered Speech & Language Therapists or Occupational Therapists

We do not use trainees or non-clinical staff to carry out diagnostic assessments. This ensures clinical integrity, consistency, and reports that stand up to educational, medical, and legal scrutiny.

What to expect in an ADHD Assessment

An ADHD assessment at Lycali consists of a structured clinical assessment for ADHD using gold-standard diagnostic assessment tools. The assessment is conducted by a multi-disciplinary team including a clinical psychologist.

The informant (someone who knows you or your child well) will meet virtually or face-to-face with one of our experienced clinicians to complete one component of the ADHD assessment. The clinician will take a detailed assessment of presenting symptoms, how the symptoms have developed over time, past medical history, developmental history, and family history. This lasts for approximately 45-60 minutes.

Informant

Teacher (child only assessments)

A questionnaire will be provided to school to complete. This is used to get a better objective understanding of how your child’s ADHD symptoms may have affected them in a learning context (school/ college etc).

One clinician will meet with you or your child and conduct an informal clinical observation and another component of the ADHD diagnostic assessment tool (DIVA). This comprises a set of questions and lasts for approximately 60 minutes (if required, the questions can be differentiated to meet the individual’s expressive and receptive language skills).

Assessment

Post-diagnostic Options

Following an assessment, the findings will be shared with you during a feedback meeting with the lead clinician who conducted the assessment. You will also receive a detailed report outlining the outcomes.

If you would like to explore medication options, we partner with a private prescribing service who would be happy to discuss this further. They accept our assessment reports, which are fully aligned with NICE guidance.

We also offer individual psychoeducation sessions to help you better understand your diagnosis and develop strategies to manage anxiety and any associated challenges.

An office meeting room with four grey chairs around a glass table, a vase with dried flowers on the table, a large potted plant on the right, a wooden desk on the left with organizational bins, books, and binders on a shelf, white walls, a heater, a ceiling light, and an air conditioner.
A waiting room with a gray tufted sofa, a blue rug, a small desk with brochures, a black office chair, a window with blinds, wall art, potted plants, a toy road playmat, and a shelf with supplies.
